Estimate only. It does not compute your tax liability, and it ignores credits, state tax, and anything else specific to your return.
Check one deduction properly
The estimator assumes you already know what qualifies. These work that out — the occupation list, the FLSA test, the six vehicle tests, the age and Social Security number tests.
- Tips
Do your tips qualify?
Search the 71 occupations Treasury listed, answer three questions about how you were paid, and see what survives the cap and the phase-out.
Check your tips - Overtime
Rebuild your overtime premium
Only the premium half of overtime is deductible, and your employer is not required to tell you what it was. This reconstructs it from your pay stubs, across raises and second jobs.
Rebuild your premium - Age 65+
The senior deduction
An extra $6,000 for each person 65 or older, itemizing or not. Check both tests for you and your spouse and see what the income phase-out leaves.
Check the senior deduction - Car loans
Deduct your car loan interest
Only new, US-assembled vehicles financed after 2024 qualify. Run the six tests, and work out the interest from your loan if you do not have the statement yet.
